Kenmore Mercy Hospital Kenmore, NY Nurse Practitioner Patient Care Services Part Time 7a-11a Days The inpatient nurse practitioner is a healthcare provider who, working with the interdisciplinary health team, is responsible for providing comprehensive care to orthopedic patients. The NP has, through study & supervised practice at the graduate level, become an expert in a specific clinical area. This multifaceted role includes direct patient care, education, consultation, & research. NP's will be granted associated privileges by the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff. Working under the supervision of the Department of Medicine & surgery and receiving general direction & reporting to the VP of Patient Care Services, the inpatient nurse practitioner (NP) will provide clinical care to non-critical, non intensive care orthopedic patients. The NP will utilize advanced clinical skills & knowledge to assess patients & manage all aspects of care, including ordering of diagnostic & therapeutic procedures. He/she will communicate clinical issues to the attending physician on the team, write orders according to standardized procedures/protocols, coordinate and schedule diagnostic & therapeutic procedures, & facilitate arrangements for discharge. Continuity of care will be maintained from admission to discharge, will monitor orthopedic status only when patient is transferred to ICU. The NP will interact with interdisciplinary departments to coordinate and schedule services. The NP will work collaboratively with members of the Medicine & surgery Departments to ensure that continuity of care is maintained between inpatient care and referring physicians.
