 In June, 2007, Project HOPE
will again join other NGOs in two Humanitarian Assistance Missions with the US Navy. One mission will be aboard the US Navy Hospital Ship Comfort and the other will be on the USS Peleliu. Volunteers on both ships will serve in teams providing surgical care, primary care, and health education. Surgical teams will primarily provide shipboard medical/surgical care; primary care teams and health educators will provide landbased treatment. Volunteers will also conduct landbased health outreach education for host nation personnel in conjunction with health authorities. US Navy regulations stipulate that volunteers must:
Be US citizens
Have current passport with one year remaining
Have a current medical/professional license and in current practice
Be under 65 years of age and in good health to withstand the rigors of shipboard life HOUSING, LOGISTICS, ETC.: Project HOPE will provide volunteers with round trip transportation to and from the volunteer's home of record. Volunteers will live on board the hospital ship and will be provided meals on board. Because of significant funding limitations, volunteers are encouraged to inquire if their employer might be able to sponsor travel costs.
