The service generally treats patients between the ages of 18 and 64. The focus of the service is multi-disciplinary treatment using community psychiatry principles, addressing psychosocial needs of the patients, working with families and other support systems in the community. The service treats patients who suffer from schizophrenia, bipolar illness, substance abuse and other co morbid conditions. Patients who are admitted receive a comprehensive evaluation in the first 48 hours, are given a physical exam and placed on medications for acute symptom relief. Delegated medical care includes, but is not limited to, the assessment, treatment and care of patients of all age categories. It is expected the employee will be competent to interpret age specific developmental, physiologic and unique care needs by assessment and by observation of care delivery.   The following is a partial job description for the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant ED position. Participates in patient education.   3. Assists physician by triaging and monitoring patients, referring for appropriate care as indicated.  Minimum Qualifications:  1. Active and current license to practice as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant  in the State of Colorado   2. Certification by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants or other agency  3. Baccalaureate degree for physician assistants and Master’s degree for nurse practitioners 4. Current and active certification in basic life support (BLS)   5.
