Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner for a busy practice in Richmond Virginia.

*PRIMARY FUNCTION/GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:*
Under the direct supervision of the orthopaedic surgeon, s/he serves in the Emergency Department as the first responder to patients seeking emergency care when it is decided by the emergency physician to consult orthopaedic services. 

The NP/PA will be contacted by the orthopaedic surgeon to perform under his/her supervision for emergent patients. Under the direct supervision of the orthopaedic surgeon, assists during surgery at the wound site by holding retractors, suturing, cutting and tying, closing skin, performing surgical preps, handing instruments to surgeon, etc. Performs preoperative assessments and delivers postoperative care to orthopaedic surgery patients. Assesses orthopaedic surgery patients' physical and psychosocial status by means of  interview, health history, physical examination and diagnostic tests. Interprets the data, develops and implements therapeutic plans, and follows through on patient care. Provides education to orthopaedic patients, their families and Hospital staff. Assists orthopaedic surgeon in various aspects of his/her provision of services including consults, management of patients on the floor, discharge paperwork, and other as determined by surgeon.

*EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:* 
1. Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program required. 
2. Required to be licensed or eligable for practice in the State of Virginia 
3. Two to five years of direct patient care, preferred. 
4. Orthopaedic clinical experience preferred. 
5. Demonstrated skills in clinical quality improvement and resource management required. 
6. Orthopaedic Certification, Preferred
